Summer Reading 2021: Reading Colors Your World

Join us for a Virtual Summer Reading Program!
Attend virtual programs through ZOOM as well as read to earn cool prizes!

Reading Groups & Rules

Little Tots (Under 3s)

  1. Begin reading June 6th and finish reading by July  31st.
  2. Time spent reading aloud counts for both the reader and the listener.
  3. Read for a total of 30 days this summer; it does not have to be consecutive.  (As little as 10 minutes counts!)
  4. Bring in reading log and pick up prizes between August 2nd and August 14th.

Listeners (3-5)

  1. Begin reading June 6th and finish reading by July  31st.
  2. Reading materials include: books, magazines, audiobooks, graphic novels, and ebooks.
  3. Time spent reading aloud counts for both the reader and the listener.
  4. Each completed week will earn you one ticket that you can spend on prizes at the end of the Summer Reading Program.
  5. Turn in completed reading logs to receive tickets and pick up prizes between August 2nd and August 14th.

Kindergarten-6th Grade 

  1. Begin reading June 6th and finish reading by July  31st.
  2. Reading materials include: books, magazines, audiobooks, graphic novels, and ebooks.
  3. Time spent reading aloud counts for both the reader and the listener.
  4. Each completed week will earn you one ticket that you can spend on prizes at the end of the Summer Reading Program.
  5. Turn in completed reading logs to receive tickets and pick up prizes between August 2nd and August 14th.

Teen Reading Rules 2020

  1. Begin reading June 6th and finish reading by July  31st.
  2. Reading materials include: books, magazines, newspapers, audiobooks, graphic novels, and ebooks.
  3. Time spent reading aloud counts for both the reader and the listener.
  4. Read a maximum of 42 hours over the course of the Summer. 
  5. Turn in completed reading logs to pick up prizes between August 2nd and August 14th.

Adult Reading Rules 2020

  1. Begin reading June 6th and finish reading by July  31st.
  2. Reading materials include: books, magazines, newspapers, audiobooks, graphic novels, and ebooks.
  3. Time spent reading aloud counts for both the reader and the listener.
  4. Read a maximum of 42 hours over the course of the Summer. 
  5. Turn in completed reading logs to pick up prizes between August 2nd and August 14th.

 

Virtual Programs

Sleepytime Tales - Tuesdays at 6:30 PM, June 8-July 27

  • This hour long virtual story time will feature a weekly theme with stories, crafts, activities, and more.  The program will be offered via Zoom.  Please register through Eventbrite, or by calling the Library at 217-864-3622 to get access to the Zoom link.
  • Once you are registered, you will need to come into the Library or call for curbside pickup the week before to get a bag full of crafts and activities that go along with the virtual program.

Storytime - Wednesdays at 9:30 AM, June 9-July 28

  • This hour long virtual story time will feature a weekly theme with stories, crafts, activities, and more.  The program will be offered via Zoom.  Please register through Eventbrite, or by calling the Library at 217-864-3622 to get access to the Zoom link.

Virtual Math Club - Thursdays at 10 AM, June 10-July 29

  • This hour long virtual math club will be a consecutive 8-week long program that will teach kids ages 7-12 that math can be fun! Each week will focus on a different math principal and we will do fun activities to learn about those principals.  Some activities will use items such as crayons, sticky notes, glow sticks, decks of cards, play-doh, and more!
  • Once you are registered, you will need to come into the Library or call for curbside pickup the week before to get a bag full of crafts and activities that go along with the virtual program.

    Outdoor Programs

    Social distancing and masks will be enforced at all outdoor programs.

    Chalk the Walk - Monday, June 7th at 10:00 AM or 11:00 AM

    • Help us decorate our sidewalks using jumbo sidewalk chalk!
    • This program is very limited; please call or come in to register.  For children ages 3-12.
    • Rain Date: Friday, June 11th at 10:00 AM

    Garden Party - Monday, June 14th at 10:00 AM

    • Help us plant flowers in our Children's Garden!
    • This program is very limited; please call or come in to register.  For children ages 3-12.

    Tie Dye Party - Monday, June 21th at 10:00 AM

    • Design your own tie dye creation!
    • This program is very limited; please call or come in to register.  For children ages 5-12.
    • Rain Date: Friday, June 25th at 10:00 AM

    Scovill Mobile Zoo - Monday, June 28th at 10:00 AM or 11:00 AM

    • Scovill Zoo will be joining us with a variety of their cute animals!
    • This program is very limited; please call or come in to register.  For children ages 3-12.

    Reptile Roundup - Wednesday, July 7th at 11:00 AM

    • Rock Springs Nature Center will be joining us with some of their reptiles that are native to Central Illinois.
    • This program is very limited; please call or come in to register.  For children ages 3-12.

    Water Gun Painting - Monday, July 12th at 10:00 AM

    • Use water guns filled with paint to create abstract art on a canvas to take home!
    • This program is very limited; please call or come in to register.  For children ages 5-12.
    • Rain date is Friday, July 16 at 10AM.

    Frog Music - Monday, July 19th at 10:00 AM

    • Rock Springs Nature Center will be joining us with some of their frogs to discuss the different "music" they make.
    • This program is very limited; please call or come in to register.  For children ages 3-12.

    Absolute Science Bubble Stations - Monday, July 26th at 10:00 AM, 10:30 AM, 11:00 AM, or 11:30 AM.

    • Absolute Science will be at the Library teaching families how to make their own bubble solution and create unique bubbles.
    • This program is very limited; please call or come in to register.  For children ages 5-12.
