Guidelines and FAQs about Mt. Zion Library Kindles

Patron Guidelines & FAQs about Mt. Zion Library Kindle

  • The device is “checked out” deregistered and wi-fi turned off.  Do not change these settings.
  • Be careful when plugging the cable into the device so that you do not bend the internal pins.  When unplugging, only grasp the solid part plugged into the device, NOT the cord.
  • As with any electronic device, the Kindle can be easily damaged (e.g. by extreme temperatures, dropping, liquid, scratching, or smoke.)  Please be cautious with the device.
  • There is a User Guide on each device called ‘Kindle User’s Guide’.
  • You can have multiple bookmarks in multiple books.
  • You can read the Kindle while charging.
  • The Kindle has a touchscreen.
  • The Kindle is never lit or backlit even though the screen looks white.  You cannot read it in the dark. The battery lasts for a long time.  The Kindle can be powered off by holding the power button for 5-7 seconds.
  • Neither the Kindle nor the Kindle cover is waterproof.
  • If you make notes, create bookmarks, log-in to a password protected wi-fi spot, link your email or social network (Facebook, Twitter, etc.), you are responsible for deleting your information from the device before you return it so that no one else has access to the information.
  • There are some titles for which you can activate text-to-speech so that the Kindle will read it to you.  Not all titles are so enabled…that is something that the publisher determines.
  • There are many titles not yet available for the Kindle…it is a publisher decision.
  • Content in each e-reader bin: Kindle, cover, USB charging cable, this FAQ sheet.
  • Kindles check out for 3 weeks and have a $5 per day late fee.
